So what is camp roam?
Think summer camp—but for photographers looking for something more.
Over the past ten retreats, we’ve discovered something surprising. While everyone arrives hoping to create beautiful work, they almost always leave talking about something else entirely. The conversations around the dinner table. The friendships that followed them home. The confidence they found after asking the questions they’d been carrying for years. The photographs matter—but they aren’t the whole story.
Camp Roam is the home we’ve built around that discovery.
Outer Banks is the first retreat under this new name, but it’s built on everything we’ve learned over the years. We’ve intentionally designed a week that blends meaningful education, thoughtfully crafted portfolio experiences, shared meals, unhurried conversations, and space to simply be. Because we don’t believe growth comes from being busy every minute of the day. We believe it comes from having the right people around you, asking better questions, and creating the kind of environment where you’re free to learn, create, and become more fully yourself.
Our shoots are designed to feel like real stories, complete with authentic details, full-day narratives, and moments that invite genuine connection. But more importantly, Camp is designed so that when you head home, you leave with more than a portfolio. You leave with friendships that last, renewed confidence in your work, and a community you’ll always have a place in.

MORE THAN JUST A PHOTOGRAPHY RETREAT
Camp Roam isn’t just about the shoots—it’s about everything that happens around them.
That’s why we’ve intentionally built two full community days into the week. One is dedicated to exploring the Outer Banks together, giving you time to experience the places that make this corner of the coast so special. We’ll wander quiet beaches and local favorites, sip coffee as the sun comes up, share incredible meals, and soak in the slower pace that makes this place feel like home.
The second community day is centered around something even more important: each other. It’s a chance to slow down, have meaningful conversations, ask honest questions, laugh until your stomach hurts, and build the kind of friendships that don’t happen when you’re rushing from one workshop to the next.
Those moments don’t end when the community days do. Throughout the week, we’ve intentionally woven smaller group experiences into the retreat so connection feels natural instead of forced. Whether it’s gathering around the campfire with s’mores, heading to the beach for sunset, sharing a picnic by the water, or simply spending an afternoon with a handful of new friends, we’ve designed the week to create space for conversations that might never happen in a larger group.
Because while the education and portfolio are what bring many photographers to Camp, it’s often these in-between moments that become the ones people carry home. The photographs remind you where you were. The people remind you why it mattered.

During the week, you’ll photograph two storytelling micro weddings, each designed to feel like a real wedding day from beginning to end.

We’ll all be staying together on the Outer Banks, creating a home for the week where slow mornings, shared meals, late-night conversations, and new friendships become part of everyday life.

The closest airport is Norfolk International Airport (ORF), approximately a 1.5-hour drive from our retreat home in Corolla.

Instead of rushing from setup to setup or worrying about getting “the shot,” you’ll have the opportunity to slow down, observe, experiment, and fully immerse yourself in each story as it unfolds.

The Roam is open to all photographers, whether you’re just starting out or have been in the industry for years! The only requirement is that you know how to use your camera in manual mode. Our retreats and styled shoots are designed to help you grow—whether that’s building your portfolio, refining your brand, or leveling up your business strategy. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by a supportive community of like-minded creatives, no matter where you’re at in your journey! ✨📸

Absolutely! Anyone is welcome to join, but it’s important to know that The Roam is heavily focused on weddings/elopements. All of our styled shoots are wedding or couple-centered, and our education is tailored toward helping photographers grow successful wedding photography businesses. If you’re looking to break into weddings or add more couple-focused work to your portfolio, this could be a great opportunity! But if weddings aren’t your thing, just keep in mind that our content and shoots may not align with your primary focus. 🫶🏻✨

We focus on one storytelling shoot at a time, giving it the space it deserves. With only 10 attendees split into small groups, everyone gets the chance to connect with the couple and capture authentic moments without the rush.
Each shoot lasts around six hours, with intentional time for flat lays, invitation suites, and all the details that bring a gallery to life. Our goal is a well-paced, story-first experience that feels real while still leaving room for your creative freedom. ✨📸

Due to insurance restrictions, we aren’t able to provide transportation for attendees. However, we set up a large group chat before the retreat so everyone can coordinate! Typically, almost everyone ends up carpooling together, which makes it super easy to get around and is a great way to connect with other photographers.

Our ticket prices are based on the number of beds available in the lodging we book. If you’d like your own bed (which typically means your own room as well), you’ll need to purchase two full-price tickets. This is because we’d have to eliminate a spot to accommodate the bed count, ensuring fairness for all attendees. If you have any questions about lodging arrangements, feel free to reach out!

Where do I start? I just got home from my 3rd Roam Retreat and it truly gets better every time. Bri + Dana pour their heart and soul into making these retreats not just about the photos but the community as well.
