Oregon | The Roam Retreat

When we dreamed up Camp Roam, we wanted to build on everything we’ve learned from years of hosting retreats — keeping the heart of what makes Roam special while giving it a new identity that feels even more adventurous and community-driven.

This Oregon trip was our 8th retreat overall, but the very first one to carry the Camp Roam name. And wow… it set the bar high. We explored two of the most jaw-dropping locations on the West Coast — the towering Redwood National Park and the rugged South Oregon Coast — all while leaning hard into what makes these gatherings magic: genuine connection.

With an intimate group of six, it wasn’t just about photography — it was about slowing down, soaking in the moments, and building a creative family. Here’s a peek into our three-day adventure.

We kicked things off under the cathedral-like canopy of Redwood National Park. There’s nothing quite like standing next to trees that have been around for hundreds of years — it made us all feel tiny in the best way. On our community day, we wandered through trails draped in ferns and filtered light, swapping photo tips and stories along the way.

By evening, we traded hiking boots for bar stools at SeaQuake Brewing — sharing local pints, laughter, and a sense of “wow, this is really happening.” The night didn’t end there… back at our stay, we lit the fire, roasted s’mores, and ended up in the hot tub under the stars.

Day 2, we started with our first educational session — diving into business chats, creative techniques, and all the little nuggets that make a big difference. Then, we got hands-on photographing the gorgeous details for the day’s micro wedding — florals, flat lays, and all the small, intentional touches that set the scene.

Once we were warmed up, it was time to head to one of the wildest, most photogenic stretches of the Pacific Northwest: the South Oregon Coast. We captured a dreamy micro wedding along the cliffs and sea stacks, salty wind in our hair, and cameras clicking nonstop. Later in the afternoon, we photographed a romantic elopement, letting the ocean backdrop do half the storytelling.

Between shoots, we swapped gear tips, editing tricks, and plenty of laughs. Every conversation felt easy — like catching up with old friends instead of meeting for the first time just days before.

We wrapped our retreat where we started: in the quiet, awe-inspiring Redwoods. Two more elopements filled our day, each one unique but tied together by the forest’s grounding presence. There’s something special about photographing love surrounded by something so ancient and steady — it kind of mirrors what we want for this community.

The Heart of Camp Roam

More than anything, Camp Roam is about connection. With such a small group, everyone had the chance for one-on-one time, late-night conversations, and those unplanned moments that make trips unforgettable.

After eight retreats, we can say this with certainty: the Roam community is growing into something truly special. Camp Roam is just the next chapter — and we’re only getting started.
